The common chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs<\/em>) reaches a body length of up to 15 cm. The wings are marked with two white stripes. The male’s plumage is bluish on the head and neck, while the chest is reddish to brown. The female’s plumage is generally greenish and more uniform in color. Chaffinches inhabit forests, gardens, and parks, and they are migratory birds (Schaefer 2018). Nest building begins in April, followed by the breeding season. A clutch consists of four to six eggs, which are exclusively incubated by the female. The chicks hatch after about two weeks (Marler 1956).<\/p>\n

Diet:<\/strong> The chaffinch feeds on fruits and seeds, as well as on spiders, insects, and their larvae (Schaefer 2018).<\/p>\n

Threat status:<\/strong> The common chaffinch is listed as “least concern” in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species and the Red List of Germany.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div> <\/section>\n \n\n
