The roach has an olive-brown color on its back and is light and glossy on the sides. Its belly and dorsal fin are red, and its iris is golden. It can reach a body length of up to 30 cm, and its pharyngeal teeth are arranged in two rows. Scardinius erythrophthalmus<\/em> is found in the shoreline areas of stagnant and slow-flowing waters (Schaefer 2018). The spawning period occurs between May and July, and the juveniles hatch after 5-7 days (Kennedy and Fitzmaurice 1974).<\/p>\n

Diet:<\/strong> Juvenile roach feed on algae, water fleas, and other invertebrates. The diet of adult roach consists of insect larvae, algae, plant matter, water boatmen, and other invertebrates (Kennedy and Fitzmaurice 1974).<\/p>\n

Conservation status:<\/strong> Scardinius erythrophthalmus<\/em> is listed as “least concern” in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species and the Red List of Germany.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div> <\/section>\n \n\n
