The yellow-necked mouse reaches a weight of up to 50 g, with a head-body length ranging from 75 mm to 110 mm and a tail length of up to 130 mm. It is named after the yellowish chest pattern of its fur (Schaefer 2018). The fur on the upper side is reddish in color, while the underside of the body is white. Apodemus flavicollis<\/em> prefers to live in forests, hedges, bushes, and gardens (Southern 1965). It takes shelter in abandoned burrows of other mouse species, as well as in tree hollows or roots (Wenk 2007). The mating season is between February and September, and a litter typically consists of 5-6 offspring (Felten 1952).<\/p>\n

Diet:<\/strong> Apodemus flavicollis<\/em> feeds on fruits and seeds such as beech nuts, maple or fir seeds, grasses, and mushrooms. It also includes animal components such as insects in its diet (B\u00e4umler 1981; Wenk 2007).<\/p>\n

Conservation status:<\/strong> The yellow-necked mouse is classified as “least concern” both globally in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species and in Germany’s Red List.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div> <\/section>\n \n\n
