ZOWIAC recieves Hessian Wildlife Prize
The subproject “Hunting, Conservation, and Science – Hand in Hand for the Preservation of a Diverse Herpetofauna” from the large-scale research project ZOWIAC was awarded the Hessian Wildlife Prize for outstanding achievements in wildlife conservation. The award ceremony took place on May 25 at the State Hunters’ Day in Fulda, presented by Environment Minister Ingmar Jung to Prof. Dr. Sven Klimpel from Goethe University and the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research, as well as to Timo Spaniol from NABU Mainz-Kinzig-Kreis.
Minister Jung and Prof. Dr. Jürgen Ellenberger, President of the Hunting Association of Hesse, praised the commitment of the ZOWIAC partners and emphasized the successful collaboration of various stakeholders such as conservation and state authorities, ministries, agriculture, hunting associations, and citizen science. The project’s public outreach efforts also provide valuable impetus to motivate additional stakeholders to participate in species conservation.
