Like raccoons, raccoon dogs have spread widely in Europe, although they are not native here – some have come from North America, others from Asia via Russia, where they were settled as fur animals from 1928. Around 1960, the first raccoon dogs appeared in the Federal Republic, where they are now considered an “invasive species.”
