Raccoons and Co. looked on the paws – joint project ZOWIAC calls for assistance
The ZOWIAC (Zoonotic and Wildlife Ecological Impacts of Invasive Carnivores) collaborative project is designed to study invasion processes of alien and immigrant carnivores, their impact on native ecosystems, and the potential associated health risks to humans. Now, the project management is calling on citizens to help find raccoons, raccoon dogs and minks. Using the ZOWIAC app, interested parties can report the three species – with the aim of obtaining detailed, area-wide data on the distribution and occurrence of the potential disease vectors.
