255 raccoon dogs from Estonia were examined. The animals were captured in various regions of Estonia between autumn 2010 and spring 2012. In total, 17 helminth species were identified (4 trematodes=flukes, 4 cestodes=tapeworms, 9 nematodes=roundworms). The most commonly detected parasite species were Uncinaria stenocephala (prevalence 97.6%) and muscle fluke (Alaria alata, 68.3%). It was observed that although the infection intensity was determined by weight and not by gender, all animals infected with more than 5 helminth species were male. Furthermore, it was found that animals infected with a higher number of helminth species consumed significantly more natural plants.
